mother
always
had butterfly wings
that made hurricanes
a thousand miles away
and winds still whip
at the whipping boys sin
they whisper shame on me
for handing over my own kin

It burdens my soul
though she can’t know
the roads don’t travel as fast
as her water though
bested rivals
now seems trifle
she swears that she still loves me
but she can no longer look me in the eyes (though)

malice
intensified
seems every step I take
and still greater the divide grows
her mirror reveals my true intentions
and she never flinches when I greet her and I fail to mention
I can feel her eyes pierce a continent apart
reprehensible wretch with no loyalty to blood
I can feel her words in the wind against the door
I’ve turned against the witches favorite son
dreams where I can’t escape my own conscience
in turn she turned a curse on her own kind
I’m compelled to heed words of proffered penance
either save your brother or live a regretful life
